Welcome to my August newsletter.

July has been such a special month for me; a family wedding to feel joyful in, holidaying with family who I have not seen for a long time, the abundance of connection and the continual awareness of being in the moment and feeling it slip away, regroup, change with that flicker of regret feeling aswell as the smile of acceptance and joy.

As the familiar rhythms of the season move us into August, the imprint of summers fast feet can be felt all around us. The pace of time never stops and reminds us we are only ever in this moment, we need to savour it right now, comfort ourselves when it feels sharp or uncertain, revel in it when if bubbles and fizzes, feel solace and peace when it steadies and balances. With mindful attention, the very ordinary moments can be a gift of awareness to take care of our heart, body and mind.

As the seasons continue their ever changing rhythm, allow yourself to experience the quiet and restorative connections to realignment of the energies of your mind, body and being in this Silent Retreat Day, set in the wonderful venue of Hellens Manor, Much Marcle, Herefordshire. Join me for this special day.

This is a very special venue that supports and creates mindful spaces, thoughtful explorations of Nature, and an opportunity to align with the quiet, restorative presence of being.

You may not always see it, but your presence in this world has left ripples far beyond what you know.

Someone still smiles at a memory you created together, still feels comforted by the kindness you once showed, and still finds courage in the words you spoke.

Someone hums a song that reminds them of you, sees beauty in the world because you pointed it out, and carries your wisdom in their heart.

Someone stands a little taller because you believed in them, walks a little lighter because you were there, and dreams bigger because you told them they could.

You matter more than you realize.

Being aware of Nature is a constant source of mindfulness for me. It is filled with the wonder of noticing and feeling the moments, right there in front of me; the tiny ladybird trudging along the wall, the dance of butterflies, the shafts of sunlight dappling the wood floor, the trees whispering their stories in the breeze, the raucous calls of the crows as the skylarks sing out their adulations to the sky, the sway of the grasses and the yellow rolling hills. And why does this Nature help? Because the dropping into the senses releases the hold of the enforcing, busy chattering thoughts, steadies the mind, soothes the body, and we inhabit the now with more clarity, perspective and calmness. We can let in the endorphins that bring awareness to the joys of our life which nourish and support us, helping us reduce our stress and anxieties. Life is a precious journey and we all deserve the joyful moments so remember to practise noticing Nature, absorbing the effects of nature, let the joys in.

Mindfulness crept into my life about 12 years ago after I completed a Mindfulness Based Reduction for Stress Course [MBSR], offered by my workplace, a Hospice. The teachings touched a need in me to want to experience life in a calmer and more enjoyable way; to find ways to be present helpfully to the way my life was unfolding rather than engage in battling with the automatic behaviours with repeating conflicting thoughts and emotions, with all the attendant emotional and physical fallouts.
