Mindful Gail December Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

We had a wonderful Retreat Day at Hellens Manor, Much Marcle on 16th November. It was a day full of unfolding and resting, releasing and restoring.

Tap here for some of the feedback from the day:

‘Grounding, relaxing, peaceful, playful,’

‘Time for me, destressing

‘Enjoyed the silence, surprisingly’

‘Lovely, no phones, very relaxing’

‘Very good choice of poems’.

‘Realigned me once again.’

‘Beautiful grounds’

I am delighted I will be sharing a Retreat Day once more at Hellens, 2nd March 2025. The new energy and vitality of Spring will be showcased in Hellens garden and grounds with the dancing daffodils, the bright green new growth, the buds and blossoms all waving towards us, a perfect space to be in.

‘If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream.’

Cherokee Wisdom

Body whispers can show up as fatigue, IBS, restlessness, ruminating mind, tight jaw, neck and shoulders, poor sleep, headaches and more. Instead of ‘powering through, getting a grip’, see these as messengers of how you are feeling and therefore need to be heard and addressed, so take some moments to notice and observe. Your body is giving you the early cues it needs to balance and heal. If you address this early, you make space for loosening hard resistance and opening with soft awareness to the opportunity of change in the present moment. This feels especially important to remember at this time of year when we all work so hard to be perfect, provide the perfect decorations, meals and presents, the perfect time for everyone. Make sure you have some time for you.

Mindfulness Article

This is an article describing how mindfulness is about being in the ride of the journey rather than just getting somewhere. The tiny cartoon in the article (and below) explains this world thinking of just keep ‘doing it,’ from a small child in education to a life of achievement and career for an outcome, I have finally got it, whatever it may be. Mindfulness is the antidote!

POEM by  Oliver Herford.

I heard a bird sing

In the dark of December

A magical thing

And sweet to remember.

We are nearer to Spring

Than we are in September,

I heard a bird sing

In the dark of December.

Find Calm in Nature

I am so pleased to be leading Nature and Mindful sessions at Tewksbury Nature Reserve once again, this coming January. Nature, in even the seemingly quietest month of winter, offers us so much space to be mindful and feel the calming, soothing connections to cyclical changes that are in all the outside spaces and which are reflected within us.

A Special CHRISTMAS GIFT:

The perfect gift, a place on the Spring Retreat Day at Hellens Manor, 2nd March 2025, for yourself or a loved one. Give this special Christmas gift of well-being, a day full of nourishment and nurturing, of rest and relaxation, in the beautiful setting of Hellens Manor, in Much Marcle, Herefordshire. A day of gentle attention and care, with time to immerse in supportive mindful practices and engage with Nature as Spring emerges in the stunning gardens and grounds.

Christmas can be such a joyous time with many anticipated joys and pleasures, family gatherings, laughter and overt kindnesses. Conversely, this can create extra pressure as we feel the stress it brings, and maybe additional feelings of isolation and disconnection. Remember your pause moments, touch into the breath and let the feelings be felt, acknowledged and validated, and then let them go. When we practice these pause moments, we learn to manage the inevitable pressures of the season, the times we live in, at home, work and in the greater communities of the world. We cannot always change our situations or directly affect or change the issues of the wider world. We can learn to change our relationship with them so reducing our stress and uncertainity and liberate those spaces to notice joy and pleasure.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and joyful season, filled with moments of laughter and connection. Remember, when the tempers fray, the turkey burns, the noise levels climb, If in Doubt, Breathe out!

With love, Gail

What I Offer...

Get in touch

Mindfulness crept into my life about 12 years ago after I completed a Mindfulness Based Reduction for Stress Course [MBSR], offered by my workplace, a Hospice. The teachings touched a need in me to want to experience life in a calmer and more enjoyable way; to find ways to be present helpfully to the way my life was unfolding rather than engage in battling with the automatic behaviours with repeating conflicting thoughts and emotions, with all the attendant emotional and physical fallouts.
